TEDx Commitee
Preparing for the TEDx event at Caterham has shown us how the concepts of identity and innovation have become vital in our everyday lives. Planning for this event started on-line in February to discuss ideas and select speakers, meeting weekly throughout online schooling; something that would have been impossible without the innovations of modern technology. However, excitement in the committee really started to build when we returned to physical school, allowing us to meet with speakers as well as with each other to finalise talks and plans. Whilst reading scripts gave us an idea of what the final talks would be like, hearing them in person brought the speech-es to life, adding personality and passion to the subjects being spoken about which cannot be replicated through a screen.
Being part of the TEDx committee has been a very enriching experience. We were able to work closely with the speakers in order to give them feedback on their talks – which not only gave us the opportunity to be one of the first to hear the outstanding speeches and help improve them as best we could, but also showed us just how much work goes on be-hind the scenes in order to organise such a great event.
From crafting the speeches, to organising the delivery of the whole event on the day, every detail is carefully thought about and worked on to make it the best quality possible in order to showcase the outstanding abilities of Caterham students. It was also very interesting to hear the feedback given to the speakers by Mr Webster and Ms Drummond. Having had experiences of giving talks like these themselves, it was fascinating to hear them give the speakers tips which we hadn鈥檛 considered before. Being part of this committee has given us valuable experiences that will prove extremely useful to us in the future. It has been so interesting learning about each speaker鈥檚 personal experience relating to the theme, and we hope that you enjoy these talks as much as we have.
